Fish & Chip Lunch
Come and join us for a Fish & Chip lunch in our Church at 1.00pm on Friday 22 February 2019. The desserts, provided by our ladies, are delicious and this will be followed by tea or coffee to complete the meal. In order to cater for the numbers that will be attending we need you to put your name on the list that will be pinned on the Church Notice Board in the Vestibule a few weeks before the event. We need enough people to participate to justify continuing this form of fellowship on a regular basis.
We are looking forward to seeing you and your family at this ‘social get together’. Bring your friends along with you. You do not have to be a church member. And you can always participate in our

The word Lent comes from ‘lenct’ the Saxon word for spring. Lent before Easter is like Advent before Christmas, a time to get ready.
Lent is when we remember that Jesus prepared himself for beginning his ministry by 40 days of fasting and prayer. You can read about it in your Bible: Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:12–13. The 40 days of Lent give us time to quietly think about Easter and to prepare ourselves for it. Lent technically lasts 46 days, but Sundays are not included in the overall count. That means it is observed for 40 days in the run-up to Easter, and is often a time when instead of fasting people will give up certain food and drink such as chocolate and alcohol. The six Sundays are not counted because each one is seen as a "mini-Easter" celebrating Jesus' victory over sin and death.
It was traditional not to eat certain things in Lent and all this food had to be eaten up before Lent started. That is why we have Shrove Tuesday: to use up the eggs and fats you weren’t supposed to eat during Lent.
