and
Associate Minister at Pagham United Reformed Church.
The Moderator of the Southern Synod, the Reverend Nicola Furley-Smith, was the Presiding Minister at the Induction Service which was exceptionally well attended by the local people as well as many others from outside the area. Included in the congregation was the Mayor of Bognor Regis, Cllr. Phil Woodall, who interrupted his busy schedule of 'Civic Duties' to be with us at this historic service and welcome Janet on behalf of the town. A number of prominent clergymen from local churches were also present to witness and support this special ‘calling’ which will involve Janet working ecumenically to support the elderly, especially those with dementia. In addition her new calling will involve her in a very important, albeit mostly a passive role, in supporting and interacting with many families and carers. Janet will also have a wider training role within the Sussex and Surrey area. Janet’s husband Frank and daughter Katie were present at the Induction Service to show their love and support for Janet on a day that will be a milestone in her life and in the history of Pagham United Reformed Church.
We now look forward to Janet’s ministry with us, and especially her work in the local community with the elderly. She has embarked upon a very challenging role which will involve a lot of visiting to groups of individuals who may be disadvantaged through age or other related matters. Janet will offer moral support and prayers to them, and when necessary speak out on their behalf in a way that represents their best interests. Janet is ideally suited for this onerous task as she has considerable experience in this area of sensitive ministry. She can be assured of support and assistance not only from our congregation at Pagham but also by many others in the local community.
